This goes beyond simply finding the missing angle in a triangle and looks at how the inverse trig functions are defined. Why do we only get one angle on the calculator and why is it sometimes negative? The reason is the range (output) is restricted to -90-90 for inverse sine, 0-180 for inverse cosine, and -90-90 for inverse tangent? It all has to do with when the original sine, cosine, and tangent graphs pass the horizontal line test. What if we want to find all of the angles between 0 and 360 or 0 and 2pi that solve an equation? I also go into depth about how to find the second angle by using reflection properties. Part 1: A warm-up gets the ball rolling with why we need inverse trig functions and then I define the output of each function. A number of examples are shown, most of which are on the unit circle. Part 2: I show how to find the second angle (because the calculator only gives you one) if you're solving for all of the angles in a given range.
